Metaphor

Metaphor means an imaginative way of describing something as another thing, and so suggesting that it has the typical qualities of that thing. For example if you wanted to say that someone is shy, you might say they are a mouse.

Simile

Simile means similar. eg she was as white as a sheet

Alliteration means the use of several words together which all begin with the same sound, for example’ around the rugged rock
